What is a thobe?
A thobe comes from the Arabic word 'الثوب' and represents the qamis traditionally worn by men. In the Middle East, it falls under 'daily wear,' but the thobe is nonetheless strongly connected to the Islamic identity because it is a garment predominantly worn for prayers in the mosque during special occasions such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
A thobe (also spelled thawb or thoub) comes in many types and sizes. The most well-known is the white qamis, but nowadays, you can find them in almost any color. Additionally, there's a lot of variation in terms of fabric, with thobes made of cotton, linen, and polyester. There are also significant differences in style. For instance, the Emirati thobe lacks a collar, the Saudi thobe has a high collar, and the Omani model has no collar but a tabouch (string) that hangs just off the center.
